Are you pumped for the Book Festival? I’m more than pumped — I’m becoming overwhelmed. I just counted 28 sessions in my Book Bag, and that’s after what I thought was a vicious pruning. Tonight I need to print the whole thing out and plan my strategy of attack: How to see the most authors in the time I have available.
Tomorrow: Got to go with the Opening Ceremony. I have to know who won the Hook short story contest. After that, I need to be three places at once. I’ll let you know how it goes. Meanwhile, some recommendations for tomorrow:
- Giants of the Twentieth Century: Ayn Rand & Louis Brandeis Jennifer Burns spoke at WriterHouse a few months ago; her book about Ayn Rand is fair and fascinating, whether you’re friend or foe.
- UVA MFA Grads Read Their Work Among the readers will be Gina Welch, author of In the Land of Believers.
- Work, Time, Life Do you need to know more? The title sells it!
- Bible Babel and Holy Curiosity: Questions and Answers about the Bible Winn Collier, Kristin Swenson, and one of the most influential books of all time? Can’t miss.
- Writers Under the Same Roof: Lois and Paul Shepherd Paul Shepherd’s book, More Like Running Away, comes recommended by my son. Anyone who can light up a teen’s imagination is okay in my book.
- Unstuck: Your Guide to the Seven-Stage Journey Out of Depression If you’ve followed this blog for a while, you may have realized that writers and depression is a subject very close to my heart. Let’s whip it with as many steps as it takes.
