C-Span has finally made the video available of a talk Morris Berman gave at New Dominion Bookshop in 2006. Berman’s ideas are provocative in a society that values positive thinking above all (if you watch the video you’ll see a couple of people walk out), but I find him a challenging thinker. This was a great presentation followed up with excellent questions.
Unfortunately, C-Span is not allowing embedding of its videos, so you’ll have to click over there to watch it.
Morris Berman talked about his book Dark Ages America: The Final Phase of Empire, published by W.W. Norton. In this book Mr. Berman compared current events in America with the fall of the Roman Empire. Mr. Berman argued that the American empire is in decline due to an overextended economy and a self-destructive foreign policy. He responded to questions from members of the audience.
