You might know her from C-Ville Weekly’s Green Scene blog, but Erika Howsare is also a creative writer who is bringing her eye for nature to WriterHouse next Saturday for a half-day workshop. Space is still available.
Nature Writing: Getting the Environment Onto the Page
Instructor: Erika Howsare
Cost: $55 members | $60 nonmembers
Saturday, February 27, 2010 | 9:00am-12:00pm
Do you feel inspired to write when you’re outside? This workshop will examine the question of what counts as “natural” before introducing exercises like paying attention to sound, representing an environment in flux, and turning nature writing clichés on their heads. The day will culminate in, with luck, an outdoor session in which students will observe their surroundings and incorporate the techniques we’ve worked on. Useful for those involved in many genres, including poetry and nonfiction, and for creative writing beginners.
