I mean people who make books, not the other kind of bookmaker, and I mean the Virginia Arts of the Book Center, not the other kind of ABC — but this still sounds fun!
Saturday, February 27, 2:00-4:00 pm: Getting Organized and Intro to Accordion Books
A combination of “show and tell,” a discussion of how to get the Bookmaking group organized, and an introduction to skills for accordion books. At this session we will…
- get acquainted as a group through show and tell–each person brings a book he/she has made or wants to learn to make and talks about what’s interesting about the structure
- discuss briefly the long-term schedule and how to handle materials fees for sessions
- discuss examples of accordion books and practice two basic skills for making them: folding for accordion structures and using the board shear to cut covers.
This is not a workshop where we make a whole book–it’s an intro and a get-acquainted meeting, hands-on but nothing messy. For those of you who haven’t used a board shear before (we’re so lucky that the VABC now has one), we think you’ll be impressed.
If a board shear is what I think it is, then making books just got a whole lot easier…no more sore hands.
