This is not a literary issue, jut an important cause that I feel strongly about. I’ve been volunteering with SHE for a couple of years. It’s a great way to make a real difference in our community.
Want to Lend a Helping Hand?
Volunteers at the Shelter help with the following:
- Magic Circle (playtime with kids)
- Answering the hotline and staffing the Shelter from 5-9 p.m.
- Helping around the office in the daytime
- Court monitoring
- Assisting with special events including Domestic Violence Awareness Month and a 5K Run
- Helping with service projects like landscaping and maintenance
The Shelter provides services to women, children and men seeking assistance with domestic violence. Women and men can volunteer — all you need to do is be at least 18 years old and sign-up for training. The Shelter will be holding the next training session from Jan 13th-Jan 29th (Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-9) and one full Saturday (Jan 24th for the shelter manager position). Please call for more information if interested!
The next volunteer training session begins on May 13th and runs for 4 weeks in the evening. Individual sessions can be made up. For more information, contact Stephanie at (434) 963-4676 or send an email to: smartin@shelterforhelpinemergency.org
