Country Music Icon Creates Groundbreaking Tribute to the Music and the Masters
Photography Book Compilation Combines Visual Art with Bluegrass Guitar Narrative
“Truly great art is, one hundred percent of the time, achieved by visionaries, not technicians…art lives and breathes based on the soul of the artist, not his or her technical prowess. Marty Stuart is one of those rare human beings that possesses all of it.
“A photograph can just be a piece of paper with an image on it… Marty’s photographs live and breathe. If it’s a person, you can hear their thoughts, feel their pain or joy, and read at least a part of their story.”
–Billy Bob Thornton
Experience the stories of the legendary pioneers of country music in a new and unforgettable way. Country music icon and artist Marty Stuart creates a unique book compilation that combines memorabilia and lush photographic history, with a Bluegrass Guitar Narrative, folksy, traditional “roots,” storytelling style. The result, Country Music: The Masters with audio CD, is Stuart’s love letter to the founders and legends of Country Music.
From the stars he played with, such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Dolly Parton, to the costumes they wore and the towns where they played, Country Music: The Masters brings the foundational days of country to vibrant life, and chronicles them forever in a beautiful package—destined to become a coveted collector’s item.
Many of Country Music’s photographs have never been published, including the cover photo of Johnny Cash, snapped by Marty just four days before Cash’s death. Other photos include rare and candid images of legendary stars, including Loretta Lynn, Lester Flatt, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson and Tammy Wynnette—as well as their costumes, instruments, handwritten manuscripts and much more.
Country Music’s audio CD displays the full range Marty Stuart’s inimitable music talent and storytelling, not only bringing the people and events behind the photographs to life, but also evoking the mood, rhythm and ambiance of the country music experience. And, for the first time on recorded audio, Stuart will release his original song, “Dark Bird,” his poignant tribute to Johnny Cash that was performed at his funeral, but never released commercially. The disc also includes a video of the performance.
Compiled and bound in a full color, coffee table book, Country Music: The Masters is a true masterpiece of the Country Music culture, and will become an historic addition to any fan enthusiast’s collection.
Marty Stuart has scored six top-ten hits, one platinum album, five gold albums, and four Grammy Awards. He has collaborated with virtually every major roots music figure of his era, from Lester Flatt to Bob Dylan.
Stuart has produced records for some of the most distinguished artists working today, and hosts Marty Stuart’s American Odyssey on XM radio weekly. Stuart’s interests outside music have yielded impressive work as a photographer, writer, collector and arts executive.
