Shelter for Help in Emergency
House Warming
A house is made of walls and beams;
a home is built with love and dreams.
– Unknown
Since 1979, the Shelter for Help in Emergency has sought to alter the pattern of domestic violence through its crisis hotline, emergency shelter, counseling, court advocacy and referrals. Built with love and generous donations from the entire community, a beautiful new facility will soon open its doors to women and children of Charlottesville and five surrounding counties in need of a safe refuge away from their abusers. The Shelter for Help in Emergency is the only such safe haven from Richmond to Staunton. But now, as the house is nearing completion, we need your help to obtain the furniture and essential supplies to make it a home.
Ways You Can Help
Shower the Shelter!
Get together with friends and each bring a gift for the house or join a “virtual” shower. Needed household items are registered on line under: “Shelter for Help in Emergency” (first name “Shelter” / last name “Help”) at Bedbathandbeyond.com, JCPenney.com, and on a “Target List” at Target.com.
Make a Donation!
Ask your company or club to make a tax-deductible donation or join with friends and family to honor someone you love. There are lots of rooms to furnish! We’d be happy to share with you the Shelter’s Wish List and any further information you may need.
100% of all donations will support the Shelter’s furnishings fund.

I have some clothes that I would like to donate. Would your shelter be interested? Right now I have alot of T-shirts random things on them. Good condition and clean. I’m going through other things as well if you could just let me know if you could use anything. I was going to take them to Goodwill, but someone suggested you all. Let me know if you need anything and where I could take them too.
And I’ve got yet another BB&B coupon…
Hi, Cindy. It’s always a good idea to call the Shelter administrative office to see if they have need for a particular donation, and room to store it. The number to call is 963-4676.
