Peace officer
Following up on my Rumors post…I happened to be at Blue Ridge Mountain Sports a couple of hours before the start of this afternoon’s Book Festival session with Greg Mortenson, called “Climbing Mountains.” The line already stretched the length of the shopping center by the time I was done with my errands. No signs of restlessness yet.
But never fear — there was a police officer on duty at Blue Ridge, the staff was fully briefed on last night’s scene, and they seemed grimly determined to keep mayhem to a decent minimum this afternoon.
According to the session listing, “Both Mr. Mortenson and the Book Festival organizers appreciate your passionate response to his appearances.” People, I know this peace activism stuff is exciting, but control yourselves. Otherwise, Mr. Mortenson may be forced to fast until the violence comes to an end.

I was out of town Thurs. but as I understand it A LOT more people showed up for the event at the Culbreth than they could accommodate. Some people had traveled from hours away only to be turned away when they got here. They were understandably upset, but there was nothing to be done.

It’s a credit to Mr. Mortenson and the Festival that people were so avid to see him.
He was a big hit at his appearance at Tandem Friends School, too.
