I think I may have mentioned before that I love, love, luuuuuuv libraries. I think of a book I want to read, I look it up in the online catalog, click, click, click, I place the book on hold, *ping* an email arrives in my inbox and the book is there at the library waiting just for me.
Here’s what’s currently on my hold shelf:
- Her last death : a memoir, by Susanna Sonnenberg
- The anatomist : a true story of Gray’s anatomy, by Bill Hayes
- Crazy for God : how I grew up as one of the elect, helped found the Religious Right, and lived to take all (or almost all) of it back, by Frank Schaeffer (I’m not sure whether I’ll be carrying home the whole book or just the subtitle)
- Life class, by Pat Barker
If you live in the area served by J-MRL, you can put these books on hold, too. Just keep in mind that you’ll have to get in line. Behind me.

And what about “Become a better you : 7 keys to improving your life every day / Joel Osteen”? Don’t even try to pretend that you’re not one of the seven who’ve requested a hold
When I walk in the door, the librarians know what part of the hold shelf to head for.
I’m so happy to hear that you LOVE our library! One other cool thing about the online library catalog is that you can decide to keep your “reading history list” in your account. All the books you check out are kept there in an archive — so when you can’t remember the title of that great book you read last summer — go check your reading history list.
