I caught a bad earworm the other day from an article in Time magazine: I’m not offended when Christians eat pork,” says Jacob Neusner. At least not usually. The brilliant–and none too patient–Jewish scholar does recall a religion conference where so much of the other white meat was served that he was reduced to a [...]

Via edrants: The Baltimore Sun reveals an interesting difference between Borders and Barnes & Noble in this feature about bookstore”soft seating”: Just a decade ago, the trend in the bookstore industry was to fit nooks and crannies with big chairs for browsing, which, it was hoped, would spur buying. H. Allen Orr, who is so distressed about the incivility of those he calls “professional atheists,” has finally found a book about evolution and religion that he likes. One suspects that the fact that, as far as one can tell from his review, the book presents not one new or original thought about either religion [...]

It pays to check your referrals. I was reviewing today’s stats for Cville Words, and included in the list of today’s referrals was a link to the Google Books entry for The Sheltering Sky. I get quite a few hits on this blog for The Sheltering Sky — maybe it’s something people read in school? [...]
