I got a chance to run downtown yesterday to see the John Lennon exhibit at the old Visitors Center. Very enjoyable. Lennon’s drawings are cheerful, witty, loving, and many of them are very good. Nearly everything was available for purchase, with prices ranging from $200 to $25,000 (for “Bed in for Peace,” from the Bag One collection).
Each picture was accompanied by a wall plaque detailing the circumstances or purpose of the drawing. The tone was generally laudatory: “This is the greatest drawing in existence,” or “No one has ever drawn the way this man drew.” I’m exaggerating, but only a little. Obviously, they’re trying to sell pieces, but I’m more used to the dry tone of museum plaques. Still, for the price of a small donation to Computers4Kids, well worth seeing.
