…to have to wait until August 14 for the release of Kenneth Branagh’s sublime Hamlet on DVD! But I’ve waited 11 years, I can wait a few months longer.
Special features:
- Available Subtitles: English, Spanish, French
- Available Audio Tracks: English (Dolby Digital 5.1)
- Commentary by Kenneth Branagh and Shakespeare scholar Russell Jackson
- New digital transfer from original 70mm elements
- Soundtrack remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1
- “To Be on Camera: A History with Hamlet” featurette
- 1996 Cannes Film Festival promo
- Shakespeare movies trailer gallery
The commentary, new transfer, and remastered soundtrack are good; the featurette will probably be interesting; the rest, blah. I guess I was hoping for more of a Lord of the Rings-style nine-hour multi-disk feature-palooza.

Hey, at least it’s coming out on DVD at all. I too once looked into whether this was available a year or two ago and was disappointed, so this is good news.
