An advertisement in the front of the latest issue of VQR caught my eye: the University of Virginia School of Medicine has started a “journal of reflective practice in word and image” called Hospital Drive. From their website:
Hospital Drive, a new on-line journal launched in the fall of 2006, encourages original creative work that examines themes of health, illness, and healing. The inaugural issue will be published in the summer of 2007. Submissions will be accepted from anyone involved with providing, teaching, studying, or researching patient care. All submissions will be reviewed anonymously by the editorial board, and only the highest quality work will be published. Poems, short fiction, personal essays, reviews, photography, & visual art (painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media) will be considered. Of the two issues each year, one will be devoted to a specific theme and include invited work. The submission deadline for the inaugural issue is May 15, 2007.
Issue Zero is available on the site. Dr. Daniel Becker is the Editor in Chief; Heather Burns, of the Charlottesville Writing Center, is the Managing Editor.
One question: Do you suppose they’d consider opening the submissions to anyone involved in receiving patient care?
